Fresh off her first European tour, Anna Laube is back with a new song entitled "Oh My! (Oh Me Oh Me Oh My)." Centered around a killer vocal arrangement and the signature blues/rock keys of The Rolling Stones' Chuck Leavell, the song draws upon Ms. Laube's love of early rock n' roll: innocent lyrics, a vocal style reminiscent of some of the classic "girl groups," and a vibe like chilled-out Elvis. The dirty harp of Madison's Dan Walkner adds gritty soul and ties the song together over a funky groove provided by Nick Moran and Adam Cargin.
In late 2012, Ms. Laube was announced as a top 10 finalist in Sing For The Trees, a national songwriting contest created to bring attention to the pine beetle epidemic plaguing some of our nation's forests. Mr. Leavell, an avid environmentalist and tree farmer, judged the contest.
"The submissions we received were of very high songwriting quality," said Mr. Leavell. After receiving nearly 300 original song submissions, 10 artists were selected as finalists, including Ms. Laube for her song, "Tree."
"Initially I thought I'd ask him to play on 'Tree' but as we were recording 'Oh My!' I knew he would be the perfect fit," she said. "I am so stoked he agreed to take part. I grew up listening to him on various things, including that first Black Crowes record (which I still love) and more recently with John Mayer, and of course, The Stones."
lyrics
All the movie stars I seen shine so bright
All the boys I seen out at night
Try as I may with all my might
I can’t give up without a fight
I ain’t never seen a one like you
You got me runnin’ but I like the pace
Your ponytail and your pretty face
A block away you make my heart race
Am I just on some wild goose chase
Maybe so, but maybe you’re the one
Well I been around the world
Yeah I like to roam
But this one might just keep me here at home
He’s so kind, with his gentle way
I’m fantasizing on our wedding day
I don’t even know him all that much
But I see him around town and such
And when we talk, my breath I have to clutch
‘Cause sometimes for a second
Our hands touch, oh my, oh me oh me oh my
Well I been around the world
Yeah I like to roam
But this one might just keep me here at home
He’s so kind, with his gentle way
I’m fantasizing on our wedding day

“Her voice is an alluringly warm, friendly instrument—sweet without becoming cloying, tender and heartfelt and rich,” - San
Francisco Bay Guardian.
“Anna Laube makes intimate, heartfelt songs rooted in traditional Americana. With a strong voice reminiscent of Neko Case or Jenny Lewis, Laube sings with a slight but refreshing country twang over a mix of blues, country and folk.” -NPR...more
